Risk analyses of genetically modified plants (GMP) have not given much attention to date to interaction at higher organizational levels (such as ecosystems and landscapes). This is however urgently necessary so that consumers, producers and public bodies are in a position to weigh the economic and legal risks of GMPs as well. Working with the example of maize and rape/canola, the GeneRisk project has set itself the task of analysing how agriculture, trade, industry and the environment are handling and dealing with GMPs.
