Modernising Existing Single-family and Two-family Dwellings to Be More Energy-efficient - Activating and Empowering Homeowners (ENEF-Haus)
Background
Energy-saving measures (installing thermal insulation, replacing old heating systems with newer, more efficient systems) in existing buildings can make a substantial contribution to reducing energy consumption and attendant carbon dioxide emissions. Heating for private homes accounts for a large portion of the energy consumed in Germany. Single-family and two-family dwellings have potential for particularly large energy savings. Every year approximately one per cent of this building stock is modernised to be more energy-efficient. However a three-per-cent rate appears to be technically and economically feasible.
Project aims
The primary goal of this project is to increase the modernisation rate. To achieve this, this project is developing relevant advisory services and political instruments (financial incentives, regulations) and target-group-specific communication methods and activities that will dismantle impediments for homeowners and increase homeowners' willingness to modernise their buildings.
