The framework concept, the updated version of the original edition from 2000, outlines goals, context,objectives and funding instruments of the Social-ecological Research funding programme. The update takes due account of  the experiences made in the first phase of the funding programme, especially  the results of the programme evaluation carried out in 2005. The Federal Ministry of Education and Research supports research and development projects making essential contributions to resolve existing problems with problem- and practice-oriented approaches and fill knowledge deficits in the field of social-ecological research.
