Diese Seite gibt einen Gesamtüberblick der sozial-ökologischen Literatur der SÖF-Forschungsprojekte. Aufgelistet sind sowohl Eigenpublikationen (z.B. Diskussionspapiere), als auch Bücher, Fachartikel in Zeitschriften oder Sammelbänden als auch universitäre Qualifikationsarbeiten.

Sozial-ökologische Literatur ist nicht so klar abgegrenzt wie in manchen anderen Forschungsbereichen. Sie ist durch die methodische Herangehensweise und besondere Integrationsformen von (Praxis-)Wissen geprägt. Inhaltliche Aspekte betreffen in der Regel sehr verschiedene Fachgebiete.

Kurzbeschreibung: If freedom (understood as expansion of capabilities) is not only the end but also the primary means of development (Amartya Sen), then there are questions of how this means works and what actors make it work. This chapter proposes, first that the work of the Indian NGO Gram Víkas illustrates the working of the development thesis in terms of complementary and mutually reinforcing capabilities of political participation, health, affiliation and ownership. Second, the case study suggests that a facilitator (Gram Vikas) actively establishes the link between these capabilities. On the present analysis, capability innovations are the carrying out of new combinations of capabilities, and this carrying out is facilitated by Gram Vikas as the entrepreneurial function. Consequently, one pathway of development as freedom can be understood in terms of innovation. Third, the case study contributes to the philosophical discussion of freedom. Gram Vikas, from a static perspective, is an outside actor imposing rules and dominating a group; from a dynamic perspective, however, this imposition arguably promotes freedom. The main tool towards this end is the gradual establishment of an actual rather than hypothetical, theme-specific social contract: a social agreement. The social agreement challenges traditional thinking and objections to social contract. Fourth, this normative and empirical study of development may contribute to development studies more generally and especially a normatively explicit and contextually sensitive study of institutional voids.
